Both the vegetable garden and feeding scheme projects started in 1999 at Gustav Reichel Primary School at Eersterivier Cross, an informal settlement in the Tsitsikamma region. The school received numerous awards on provincial and national level. Vegetables are processed and frozen for the feeding scheme at school.
This project expanded to the adjacent community and up to 70 gardens are yearly visited and rewarded by the EPO. The EPO would like to identify gardeners that will be willing to undergo further training to be able to market their vegetables.
